August the album.

August was a debut album by Ryan Trey a young up and coming R&B/ Hip-hop artist. The 2018 album encapsulated the emotional and physical obstacles he endured so far in life.

The Task.

To develop a poetry book using lyrics that are sentimental/inspiring to you.

What are you waiting for?

The focus of my poetry book is a visualization of the lyrics of Ryan Trey’s song “Love Ain’t Free.” This song was included in his August EP written by him at the age of 19. In this song, he expresses how he has been misunderstood and used due to his loving nature. My main goal is to create drawing visuals that encapsulate each lyric from an outsider's perspective and interpretation from a woman's point of view.

I intend that individuals predominantly around the ages of 19-26 will be the audience. Within this bracket women are learning to understand themself and their stance within the world. This is also the age at which women began to experience their first heartbreak.

Today’s world pushes the idea of toxicity and using others for personal gain. Given our desire to love and or be loved will help the women of this age relate to the lyrics and illustration. This will help push the concept of letting things be and allowing the universe to work in your favor while you make achievements for yourself. I want my audience to feel empowered to go out and get the things they want instead of waiting for someone to give them to them. In addition to not settling for someone/something less than just because it provides you with temporary happiness or forced happiness.

Why?
