Recent studies have shown that the rise in streaming music and headphone usage has aided the communicative disconnect within society.
Discovery Process
It all started with the purchase of my very own Beat solo studio 3 headphones.
As I walk through campus the feeling of alienation was evident. Since the development of Beats solo studio 3 headphones was fairly new it was difficult to source information. Relying on the object itself my analysis process consisted of drawing key characteristics that stood out such as color, construct, and key features.
A Thesis presented in 2005 to California State Polytechnic found that the use of isolation or noise canceling headphones impedes interactions with humanity. The study found that it affects humanities push for relationships and emotional bonding.
A Current finding in 2022

Isolation.
The noise-cancellation feature allows the wearer to isolate themselves within any location. The off putting feature even removes the usage of a cellular device through its manual buttons on either side. Users are not only isolating themselves in person but also digitally.
Camouflage.
The tawny color choices from army green to midnight blue pushes the idea of hiding within plain sight. All colors with the exception of white evoke a elegiacal atmosphere.
Physical Blockage.
The headphones protruding outward represents the physical boundary between the wearer and the outside world. The product dimensions are 6.3 x 4.72 x 8.94 inches and displaces the individual from their current environment.
